Police have arrested two suspects who allegedly sold muffins laced with dagga to ninety learners from Pulamadibogo Primary School.
Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane said they are pleased by the swift arrest of the perpetrators.

The pair appeared before the Soshanguve magistrate’s court on Friday.

This follows an incident that took place on Wednesday where ninety learners from the said school were hospitalised after consuming muffins that are suspected to have been laced with dagga.

Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane stated that all affected learners are now discharged from hospital and that they are pleased by the swift arrest of the perpetrators.

“We applaud the police for their swiftness in arresting these suspects and are hopeful that they can apprehend more scrupulous individuals who may be involved in this criminal act, which can stand as a deterrent to others who seek to peddle drugs to our learners.

“We are grateful that most of the affected learners are recovering and wish those who are still not well a speedy recovery,” said MEC Chiloane.

The two suspects are facing attempted murder charges and will be appearing in the same court on Friday, September 29, 2023.

“The two suspects are said to have used blue lights to stop the vehicle driven by the complainant and acted as if they were law enforcement officers thereby ordering the driver (who is also the complainant) to stop.

“Thereafter, the driver was told by one of the suspects to drive to a Weighbridge for processing while the other suspect went to the passenger side and reportedly took out a firearm then allegedly pointed at the driver’s son and took his passport.

Brig Mohlala added that during this time a scuffle broke out between the driver’s son and the suspect holding a firearm.

“The incident was reported to the police and upon arrival, a case of robbery was opened. The firearm was confiscated and will form part of the investigation, which includes details regarding the owner of the firearm”.
