Mbele failed to appear at the Johannesburg magistrates’ on Wednesday and submitted a medical certificate stating that she is booked off sick until October 3, 2023.

She alongside her Real Housewives business partners, Yolisa Gqunta and Rebone Sesing are facing a charge for contravening the tax administration act.

Spokesperson for Sonia Mbele Films, Thato Malindi said the actress is a victim of misconduct by her past peers and the media.

“She left the company in question, Rhosa, in 2019 and concluded with her peers to close it. However, the public officer and accountant didn’t do so.

“Now she is forced to attend these proceedings without any knowledge of the company still being operational when she left and decided to close down the company.

“She further made arrangements to settle her portion of the amount which means she wasn’t in contempt of court due to the assessment made.”

Malindi stated that Sonia also submitted a doctor’s note to the NPA and it was taken into record.

He continued; “It confuses and derails us on why these have not been highlighted but making it seem like she has been ducking and dodging these allegations.

“Sonia is still not feeling well and she went to the doctor today [Thursday] for further check-up but is still working to settle her name which has been dented by her previous peers and the media.

“This stems as a valuable lesson for her on a business end that the best way of doing things without any litigation or unethical conduct attacking you from behind…is to go into business alone knowing your own stands and how you conduct business.”

Malindi said as a business woman, being ethical is the core of Sonia’s success and she just wants to get this hurdle out of the way and proceed with her new found company.
