Tributes continue to pour in for actress Lebohang Mpyana, best known for her role as ‘Khelina’ on TV series ‘Diep City’, who passed away on Wednesday after a short illness.
Family spokesperson T Mpyana confirmed the news of the 34-year’s death in a brief statement on social media.
“It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our daughter Lebogang Mpyana … We ask that you keep us in your thoughts and prayers in this time of bereavement.”
‘Khelina’ is her first ever acting role on television, and she embodied it.
Known for her larger-than-life personality, which earned her many fans across the country and ultimately scooping Viewers’ Choice Best Actress Award at the September 2021 Royalty Soapie Awards.
Black Brain productions shared a tribute to the actress, speaking of the impact she made portraying the role of Khelina on Diep City.
“Lebogang was an extraordinary individual who fearlessly pushed boundaries, defying expectations and inspiring many with her talent.
“Her portrayal of ‘Khelina’ touched the lives of countless viewers, capturing hearts and minds with her remarkable performances.
“Through her character, she became a symbol of strength, resilience, and determination, transcending barriers and shattering stereotypes.
“Her departure leaves a void in our hearts and in the entertainment industry. Lebogang’s unique presence and unwavering dedication brought ‘Khelina’ to life in a way that will never be forgotten.

“Her contributions will continue to inspire aspiring actors and actresses to pursue their dreams fearlessly, reminding them that perseverance and hard work can make a lasting impact,” the statement read.
Memorial and funeral service details are expected in due course.
