Tributes have continued to pour in following the death of veteran actress Connie Chiume, who died on Tuesday at age 72.

Fans, friends and colleagues have celebrated the late actress Connie Chiume who died at in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

Chiume who made the term ‘My Baby‘ fashionable in reference to her on-screen daughter Nthati (played by Katlego Danke) on drama series Gomora, a role which saw her bag a South African Film and Television Award (SAFTA).

She also played lead roles in the early 80s on the small-screen as Thakane on Sesotho drama Mohlolohadi.

The Black Panther star and matriarch of the industry to many starred in multiple hit TV series such as Yizo Yizo, Zone14, Rhythm City, Housekeepers, Grassroots, S’gudi S’naysi.

Connie’s family confirmed that the International Acclaimed award-winning actress died at Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg.

Soon after the announcement of her demise, social media became a buzz with friends, fans and colleagues paying their respect on their timelines for the role she played over the years.

The South African Government wrote, “Our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of multi-award winning and legendary actress Connie Chiume. Her outstanding work will always be remembered.”

“The SABC joins the rest of the country in mourning the passing of Veteran Actress Connie Chiume. Her immense contribution to the entertainment industry will never be forgotten. Condolences to Chiume family, friends and fans,” SABC Portal wrote.

Paid-digital television channel, Mzansi Magic said; “A remarkable talent whose heart and life touched so many. Farewell, Mam’Connie. Rest in Peace”

Television talk-show host Felicia Mabuza-Suttle also conveyed her condolences upon hearing news of the Chiume’s passing.
