43-year-old female killed in a head-on collision

A 43-year-old female was killed in a head-on collision involving a truck and light motor vehicle on the Range View Road and Moth Road intersection, in the Benoni area next to Willowmore Cricket Stadium.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) spokesperson Lt Colonel Kelebogile Thepa said on arrival, they found parts of both a white Hyundai SUV and a UDS truck in the middle of the roadway.

“It is not clear at this stage what occurred before the crash, however, preliminary investigations reveal that the white Hyundai SUV lost control on the sharp curve and collided with the UDS truck.

“The crash resulted in the 43-year-old female driver of the SUV succumbing to her injuries, as emergency services attempted to resuscitate her on the scene,” Thepa added.

Thepa further encouraged motorists to practice caution when driving on public roads, and always adhere to the rules of the road.  

A case of culpable homicide has been opened at the Benoni Police Station.

Investigations are ongoing.
