Repairs to replace old water pipes and related infrastructure at various sections of Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Soweto are currently underway.
This comes after the pipes burst causing water log in some parts of the health facility.
“The repairs are very progressive and will be done section by section until all the pipe replacement works are completed,” Gauteng department of infrastructure and property spokesperson Castro Ngobese explained.
Ngobese said the affected hospital theaters have now been completed and teams are now focusing on other sections.

He continued; “Inspections have revealed that many of the old pipes need immediate replacement since the team is dealing with ageing infrastructure.
“The team has since extended the repairs to replace most of the old pipes.
“Water pressure is also being managed through pressure reductions to minimise instability in the system until the installation of the new pipes is completed on the hospital.”
