Help sought in locating a missing 16-year-old teen

Police have requested the community to lend a helping hand in locating Ashley Selala who has gone missing.

According to the police, Ashley’s uncle reported that he left home with his wife on Saturday, and left the 16-year-old teen from Vaalpark, Sasolburg with her older sister and other siblings.

He further reported that on Sunday, 15 December 2024, he was informed that Ashley left the house early in the morning and has not returned, said Free State police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani.

He added that when the uncle arrived at their home, on Monday at about 21:00, he found that Ashley was still missing.

Rani urged anyone who might have information on Ashley’s whereabouts to contact their nearest police station or call crime stop hotline.

In another incident, a body of a male was found in the open field near Tempe, Parkweg.

Police Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli said, a member of the public was busy collecting wood near Tempe Military base when he made a gruesome discovery of the body of a male lying motionless in the veld.

“Emergency personnel and police were summoned to the scene and he was declared deceased. The cause of death will be determined by the pending post-mortem.

“Parkweg police found an identity card in his trousers with the names Ruciano Bester. The deceased, according to his identity number, he is 20 years old. He was dressed in dark grey trousers, a blue tshirt with a blue sweater,” he added.

Kareli stated that an inquest has been opened for further investigation.

He further pleaded with anyone who might be related to the deceased or know their next of kin, to contact their nearest police station or call crime stop hotline.

Meanwhile, Phokeng detectives still request members of the public to assist in locating a missing 36-year-old Sobelo Tengile, who is residing at Phase 1, Freedom Park, Phokeng. 

According to North West police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sam Tselanyane, Sobelo was last seen by his brother on Thursday, 27 June 2024.

No leads on missing 36-year-old

“A search was conducted around Phokeng and all leads were followed up, but that did not yield any positive results.

“At the time of his disappearance, Sobelo was wearing a beige coat, white t-shirt, blue jeans and brown takkies. He’s of average built, with black afro hair and a brown complexion,” he remarked.
