Eskom has issued a reminder to all customers within the Emfuleni local municipal area that electricity accounts must be paid directly to them.
According to the power utility this is in line with the court order handed down by the Pretoria high court in July 2023.
In October 2024, Emfuleni local municipality signed a Distribution Agency Agreement (DAA) with Eskom, formally appointing them as the service delivery agent responsible for functions and services related to the municipality’s electricity business.
Eskom’s Gauteng spokesperson, Amanda Qithi, said this directive remains in effect and is essential for ensuring continued electricity supply and sustainable service delivery.
“While several customers have already complied with this requirement, it has come to our attention that some customers are still not making payments directly to Eskom.

“We urge these customers to make their electricity payments directly to the Eskom/Emfuleni First National Bank account (Account number: 50851624426, Branch code: 223626), using their Emfuleni account number as the payment reference.
“The proof of payment should be sent to elmdirectpay@eskom.co.za and vipaccounts@emfuleni.gov.za,” she added.
Eskom and Emfuleni fostering a cooperative relationship
Qithi stated that for any queries or assistance, customers are encouraged to contact the Emfuleni local municipality’s electricity department.
She continued; “Together, Eskom and Emfuleni Local Municipality remain dedicated to fostering a cooperative relationship that benefits both entities and to ensuring the successful implementation of the Distribution Agency Agreement.”
