The African National Congress in Mzala Nxumalo region has called for a united front on ongoing cases of sexual misconduct involving Zululand district municipality mayor, Thulasizwe Buthelezi.

As the ANC in the region, party regional secretary Ntokozo Nxumalo said they are aware that over the past two years, municipal workers have consistently lifted the lid on alleged multiple cases of sexual abuse involving the Buthelezi.
“In the past, we saluted women who mastered the courage to come forward to detail such a shocking sex scandal involving someone who styles himself as a reverend.Â
“Sadly, more than six women have been dismissed for rejecting his sexual advances. The latest voice notes that are a subject of discussions cannot be ignored any longer,” he remarked.

Nxumalo emphasised that they are worried that the reverend has failed consistently to clear his name.Â
He added; “No one is above the law. He must be held accountable for the abuse of public office.
“We will be pursuing this matter further in the council and on other platforms to ensure that justice prevails and that victims find closure.”
Nxumalo further called on Chapter Nine institutions such as the Public Protector, the SA Human Rights Commission, and the Gender Commission to launch thorough and full-scale investigations using all the laws available in our democratic country.
Smear campaign since appointed Zululand mayor
Buthelezi has accused the ANC of plotting to tarnish his name by spreading allegations that he was sexually abusing women employees in the municipality, IOL reported.
Buthelezi stated that he has been subjected to a malicious smear campaign since November 2017 when he became the mayor of Zululand.
He challenged those making allegations against him to report him to Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs and to law enforcement agencies.
