Faced with a collapse in service delivery the ANC coalition has decided to buy new vehicles for the Speaker of the Council and the Chief Whip, revealed DA’s Shadow MMC for Public Works Dady Mollo.

“We voted against this expense, while emphasising the need to allocate resources for service delivery improvement.

“This decision was made in the face of declining service delivery and paints a picture of misplaced priorities. It is disheartening to witness the neglect of vital services that directly impact the lives of our residents,” he expressed.

According to Mollo, administrative instability caused by critical vacancies in senior management, failure to comply with the Eskom Debt Relief conditions, cash flow challenges, poor waste management services and high water and electricity distribution losses are emerging and material risk occurrences which affect the municipality.

He stated that they stand firmly against any decision that diverts resources away from service provision.

“As the opposition party, we believe that prioritising and allocating our available resources responsibly is crucial to uplift the municipality and enhance the quality of life for our residents.

“We remain committed to actively engaging with the community while working tirelessly to ensure essential services are prioritised. We urge the ANC coalition to reconsider their decision and align their priorities with the urgent needs of our residents,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, DA Gauteng Premier Candidate Solly Msimanga has denounced the augmentation of powers granted to Crime Prevention Wardens and said he view them as nothing more than a misguided public relations ploy.

He added, “It is evident that these wardens are attempting to replicate the successful Leap Officer Program in the Western Cape, yet they lack the essential training and regulatory framework, making their presence a liability.”

Msimanga is adamant that the entire initiative should be abandoned.
