Kaizer Chiefs have officially announced the acquisition of former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lebohang Maboe on a free transfer.
The 30-year-old attacking midfielder with thirteen caps for the South African national team, Bafana Bafana, is the tenth acquisition for Amakhosi in the current season.
Maboe, who joined Bafana Ba Style in the 2017/18 PSL Season as a high-profile signing from Maritzburg United spent the latter part of the previous campaign on loan at the now-defunct SuperSport United.
He saw little game time in recent seasons fueled by injuries, which saw him deemed surplus to requirement at Chloorkop.
Last season, Maboe made 10 appearances across all competitions for Sundowns, before completing a move to their cross-town rivals, where he chipped in with one goal and two assists in 16 matches, helping the club to avoid relegation.
Maboe returns to Kaizer Chiefs
Having being part of the Kaizer Chiefs’ youth development academy during his teenage years, Maboe returns to Naturena after stints with SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Maritzburg United.
Over the course of his distinguished career in the Premier Soccer League, he has collected several trophies and accolades.
Expressing his excitement Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr. said they know Lebo is a quality player who has gained valuable experience in continental competitions over the past few years.
“His expertise will be crucial for us in both the domestic league and the CAF Confederation Cup. We’re pleased to welcome him back to Amakhosi. He was here and knows the culture and what our supporters expect from our players,” he added.

Amakhosi’s next game is on Wednesday at the FNB Stadium against Mamelodi Sundowns who are reeling from wounds following MTN8 exit over the past weekend.
Kick-off is at 7:30pm with Maboe not expected to make match-day squad but likely to be unveiled.
