Sundowns announce two new signees

Mamelodi Sundowns have officially confirmed the appointment of Romain Folz as their Assistant Coach.

The 34-year-old returns to the domestic league football following a stint as AmaZulu FC mentor, having managed Usuthu from 2022 until 2023.

In April 2023 he was redeployed as technical director.

Fohloza as he is affectionately known will form part of the club’s Technical Department together with Manqoba Mngqithi, Steve Komphela, Wendell Robinson and Kennedy Mweene.

“Romain joins the 2023/24 PSL Champions from FIFA’s High-Performance Department where he worked on the development of football.

“Folz who holds a UEFA Pro License has previously worked in South Africa and across Africa in Guinea, Botswana, and Ghana.

“Mamelodi Sundowns players and Technical Team have warmly received Romain into the camp in Austria where they are on a pre season camp.

“The Club will play more competitive matches in the next few days as part of the ongoing pre season preparations,” the club said in a statement.

Kegan Johannes joins Sundowns

Meanwhile, the reigning DStv champions also announced the signing Kegan Johannes.

The former Supersport United defender joins the Brazilians on a long-term contract.

Johannes, a product of the Cape Town Spurs (formerly Ajax Cape Town) youth system, joined SuperSport in November 2021.

The 23-year-old joins attackers Kobamelo Kodisang from Moreirense in Portugal and Brazilian Arthur de Oliveira Sales from Belgian side Lommel SK as Downs’ signings of the 2024-2025 preseason so far.

Johannes, who has previously captained the South African u23 National Team, has established himself in the domestic league, racking up a number of impressive appearances in the Premier Soccer League and domestic cup competitions.

The Brazilians are currently in Austria for their pre-season camp and they are expected to play against Cardiff City on Tuesday.
