Controversy erupts over Nigerian 'King's' coronation in South Africa

The African Transformation Movement (ATM) has expressed strong opposition and concern over the coronation of a Nigerian king titled "Igwe Ndigbo Na East London" in the Eastern Cape.

According to ATM Spokesperson Zama Ntsona, this development is viewed as a direct challenge to South Africa's sovereignty, a violation of its legal principles, and an affront to the institution of traditional leadership as recognized by South African law and customs.

"South Africa, as a constitutional democracy, has a legally defined framework that protects traditional leadership, which cannot be ceremonially appointed or imported from foreign traditions," he remarked.
