Alleged murder accused and tenderpreneur Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala is set to give testimony before the Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee at the Kgoši Mampuru Correctional Facility.

Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala who is currently in custody, will be giving his testimony as part of the proceedings.

The committee established to investigate the allegations made by the South African Police Service’s (SAPS’) KwaZulu-Natal provincial head, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, is scheduled to hear evidence from three key witnesses in Gauteng this week.

This decision follows a resolution by the committee and is intended to ensure the safety and security of all parties involved in the investigation, said committees’ Media Officer, Malatswa Molepo.

Matlala who is the 13th witness to appear before the committee will be testifying on allegations of his firm acquiring R300 million SAPS tender.

“Matlala, who is currently in custody, will be giving his testimony as part of the proceedings. In addition, the committee has resolved to hear from the SAPS’ Chief Financial Officer, Lt Gen Puleng Dimpane, and the Deputy National Commissioner for Policing, Lt Gen Tebello Mosikili,” he revealed.

On Tuesday, Mary de Haas appeared before the committee to provide her testimony. de Haas was cited by the suspended Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu, in his testimony.

In her testimony, de Haas corroborated Mchunu testimony that she wrote a letter instructing him to disband the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).

de Haas admitted that she wrote to Minister Mchunu on 31 October requesting him to disband the PKTT, saying her decision to write the letter was based on observed irregularities. 

Chief of Staff in the Office of the Police Minister, Cedrick Nkabinde was recalled after his first appearance before the committee was suspended following his unsatisfactory testimony.

He was unable to provide clarity on key matters, including the sequence of events relating to his contact with North West businessman Brown Mogotsi.

The committee found the evidence presented to be inconsistent and lacking in accuracy, particularly regarding matters that could have been easily verified through the Minister’s official diary.

Clarity surrounding Matlala’s company

On Thursday, Lt Gen Fani appeared before the committee to provide evidence and clarify issues surrounding Medicare 24, a company owned by Matlala.

During the session, committee members lambasted Lt Gen Fani, questioning him about the procurement process and the lack of background checks conducted on suppliers.
