The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has urged motorists to avoid late-night and pre-dawn travel to prevent deadly festive season crashes.

Two vehicles collided near Ogies on the N12 in Mpumalanga around 4:30 am, resulting in seven fatalities.
According to RTMC, this happened when a Toyota Sedan with Mozambican transporting 5 persons and a Nissan NP 200 LDV transporting 2 persons got involved in a T-Bone type crash.
“A fatal T-bone collision on the N12 resulted from a Nissan LDV driver losing control while travelling east to west. The vehicle crossed the centre median, striking an oncoming Toyota Sedan head-on.
“All occupants in both vehicles were killed instantly at the scene. The crash cause remains unknown, pending an ongoing investigation by the RTMC Crash Unit and the South African Police Service,” the statement read.
