Two suspects were arrested by the provincial organized crime unit in Klerksdorp on Friday on charges of fraud and possession of suspected stolen property.

The arrests followed information received indicating that the duo allegedly issued a fraudulent order form to a Klerksdorp business, pretending to be representatives of a broadcasting authority in order to purchase electrical wiring.
Amogelang Moleme, 24, and Raphael Sitoe, 39, allegedly collected the ordered wiring but were intercepted and arrested by police shortly after the collection.
Stolen wiring, estimated at more than R200,000.00, was confiscated, along with two vehicles allegedly used in the commission of the crime, confirmed North West police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh.
According to Myburgh, the duo appeared before the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court for their first appearance on Monday, 18 May, and were remanded in custody until their next court appearance on Monday, 25 May.
“In the meantime, the investigation team linked the suspects to nine more similar fraud and theft cases reported at businesses in Klerksdorp. They are expected to appear for the third time before the same court on Thursday, 28 May,” she added.
Myburgh urged any business owners in the Klerksdorp area who may have been defrauded in a similar manner to contact their nearest police station or phone the crime stop hotline.

Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, the acting provincial commissioner, commended the officers for their quick action in arresting two individuals.
He also emphasized the importance of caution for both the public and the business community during business transactions.

“Fraudsters often pretend to be employees of well-known businesses and government entities, using fraudulent credentials to deceive suppliers.
“Prompt reporting of suspicious activities to law enforcement, as in this case, can prevent financial losses and assist police in bringing perpetrators to justice,” Naidoo said.
