The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Emfuleni has expressed approval regarding the ousting of Executive Mayor Sipho Radebe.

Furthermore, the DA advocates for the resignation of all ANC councillors who have historically shielded Radebe during his tenure.
This call for accountability, according to the party’s caucus leader Duncan Mthembu, highlights their stance on governance and desire for a political environment free from corruption and mismanagement.
Mthembu stated that they know the ANC only acted against Radebe after losing Ward 28 to the DA last week.
He emphasised that the DA victory in Ward 28 is an indication that residents are tired of empty promises and have lost confidence in the ANC government in Emfuleni.
“Emfuleni residents are tired of living in a municipality that is the epitome of corruption and poor service delivery.
“The municipality has become a place where raw sewage runs inside people’s houses, where crime has found a home, and a place where illegal dumping sites have become the norm.
“It is no surprise to hear the ANC saying the mayor resigned because of service delivery failures,” he remarked.
MoNC against Mayor Radebe
Mthembu noted a history of raising concerns about poor political leadership and basic service collapse, leading to a 2023 motion of no confidence against Mayor Radebe.
He continued, “Despite these issues, the ANC defended Radebe, claiming he was suitable for his role, although their reasons for his removal align with those submitted by the DA in their motion.
“But let us be clear: Radebe was not removed for service delivery failures. He was removed for losing a ward to the DA. Power matters more to the ANC than people do.

“The ANC will not fix Emfuleni, especially if he is simply replaced by another ANC councillor.”
Mthembu asserted that none of the ANC councillors have demonstrated their capability to improve the municipality, instead indicating that they actively supported a mayor whose performance has been described as a significant failure.
“Emfuleni needs new leadership and it is only under a DA-led government that Emfuleni will work for all. Residents have given us a mandate in our first township by-election victory. The rest will follow,” he added.
