A night with comedians of non-stop giggles and chuckles

GET ready for an evening filled with laughter and joy as South Africa’s beloved comedians will grace the stage on August 3 at Mardi Gras Theatre in Carnival City, Ekurhuleni.

The #6 Heavyweight Comedy Night Extravaganza which will kick start at 8pm is set to have audience laughing out loud.

David Kau, Kedibone Mulaudzi, Trevor Gumbi, Nicholas Goliath, Joey Rasdien and Tol Ass Mo are set to headline the event. 

The comedians promised to make the first week [August] of the month, a memorable one for their fans and new followers with the theatre expected to be packed to the rafters for the night of laughter.

Known for his clean, family-friendly humour, for years the award-winning Kau has been tickling the nation’s funny bones making him one of the icons in Mzansi’s comedy scene. 

With a career spanning more than 20 years, his rise to success was sparked when he became the first black comedian to take part in the 1988 Smirnoff International Comedy Festival in Cape Town.

His popularity grew with the comedy series such as The Pure Monate Show that was driven by Mzansi’s political and social climate during 2003 to 2004.

He is also a prolific writer, producer, director, consummate filmmaker and a university of Cape Town drama studies graduate.

Entertainer and businessman, Mulaudzi said; “We are one of the best comedy industries in the world. No joke… Our country is rich in the material.” 

His comic experiences are vast. He is a project of Horror Cafe’ comedy nights, which ceased with the closing of cafe a few years ago. 

Mulaudzi shared stage with the likes of Trevor Noah, Eugene Khoza, Tumi Morake and witnesses how the seeds of local comedy tool root. 

Gumbi has recently been unveiled as the new host of the third season of Mzansi Magic’ Wang’Kolota, which will starts airing on August 18. 

He says it won’t be funny at all when he comes after you to make you pay back the money you owe.

The show shines a spotlight on individuals who openly spend money while neglecting to pay their debts. 

Goliath quoted: “What happens in a stand-up comedian messaging is thing you promised people that they will laugh, so you want people to laugh – which makes the silences awkward, heavy, and uncomfortable. This often makes the comedians just revert back to old jokes.” 

The TV star and entertainer, Tol Ass Mo made headlines in 2023 when he announce he was divorcing his wife Mome Mahlangu.

Soon after that, reports surfaced that he was allegedly romantically linked with another woman, and pictures of him kissing the woman appeared on social media. 

Rasdien is no stranger to the comedic world. 

Known as one of the best in the business, Rasdien is known to not only be funny, but to push boundaries when it comes to his content on stage.

Not long ago, he commented on his Sandton show that left a bitter taste in some members of the audience. 

He later took to Instagram to apologise for the comments made.
