Independent musicians in Gauteng are set to be empowered through an initiative offering them the opportunity to digitize their music for free.

The provincial department of sport, arts, culture, and recreation announced an exciting and new program targeting local musicians across the province in Joburg, Westrand, Ekurhuleni, Sedibeng, and Tshwane.
Titled “Rhythms of Heritage:Â Empowering Ownership,” celebrates the current month and seeks to amplify the voices of musicians residing in townships, informal settlements, and hostels, while honoring their cultural roots.
By providing a platform for local talent to showcase their unique sound, this initiative will elevate the careers of emerging artists and bring their music to digital platforms where it can reach broader audiences, said Shane Maja, the Chief Director; Cultural Affairs.
He highlighted that the initiative is aimed at profiling the incredible talent within Gauteng and ensuring that artists have access to the tools necessary to succeed in today’s digital music landscape.
Musicians to showcase their talent
“We are proud to be part of this initiative that not only celebrates our heritage but also strengthens our future by giving our local artists the opportunity to digitize their music and showcase their talent to the world. By empowering ownership, we are investing in the next generation of South Africa’s music creators,” added Maja.
Interested musicians have until September 30 to submit their music. For more info on how to apply click here.
