The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) in Mpumalanga says it welcomes the three life sentencing of GBV perpetrator Sizwe Cedric Khoza.

Khoza, who was a police constable at the Masoyi Police Station in Mpumalanga has been sentenced to three life terms in prison by the Mpumalanga High Court for killing three people, two of whom were nurses.
He was found guilty of fatally shooting his wife, Nomthandazo Mnisi, his sister-in-law, Xolisile Mnisi, and his brother-in-law, Dennis Mkhatshwa in April 2023.
In a joint statement, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and the Ipid said evidence before the court is that Khoza and his wife, had marital problems, and he called a meeting with the wife’s family to assist them.
During the meeting, an argument ensued. Suzan’s brother called Khoza a small boy, which angered him.
Khoza then went to his bedroom, took out his service firearm, and went to the sitting room to show them what a small boy can do.
GBV perpetrator dealt with harshly
DENOSA Mpumalanga Provincial Secretary, Cyril Mdhluli, said they view the sentence as sending a strong message to the community that perpetrators of GBV+F are to be dealt with harshly by the law upon their arrest.
“The sentence is concomitant with the grossness of the crime, which has deprived at least more than 180 patients of the province a day, as two of the deceased were nurses.
“The convicted murderer used a state firearm to shoot the three deceased who were part of family members trying to mediate on domestic disputes.
“DENOSA further welcomes the declaration of Khoza as medically unfit to own a gun by judge Takalani Ratshibvumo,” he remarked.

Mdhluli added that they thank the fellow nurses who have shown solidarity with the victims throughout the court dates, sending a consistent message that crime must be met by a harsher sentence.
