According to reports, members of the police were conducting routine patrol duties at approximately 18:50 in a marked police vehicle when they were approached by members of the public.

“A female community member reported witnessing a male being forcibly pushed into a Kia motor vehicle and pointed out the direction in which the vehicle had fled.

“Members found the suspected vehicle, leading to a high-speed police pursuit,” said Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko.

Cpt Sibeko stated that the suspects’ vehicle was subsequently brought to a stop. Five suspects and one victim were found inside a vehicle after an inspection.

Victim rescued

The victim’s delivery motorbike had been hijacked before the incident. The victim was rescued and is now receiving medical treatment.

He added, “Five suspects were arrested. One suspect was transported to hospital under police guard for a medical issue. Two firearms were found in the vehicle and will undergo ballistics testing as part of the ongoing investigation.”

Sibeko commended the swift response of its members and extends sincere appreciation to the vigilant community member whose timely report contributed significantly to the successful rescue and arrests.

Investigations are ongoing.
