Recovery of a hijacked vehicle, two unlicensed firearms with three suspects arrested are some of the success emanating from a roadblock on Golden Highway, Orange Farm.

The multidisciplinary Operation Shanela led by Gauteng provincial commissioner lieutenant general Tommy Mthombeni also saw eight more people arrested for drunk and driving while over 20 undocumented persons were apprehended.

Furthermore, police confirmed closure of a liquor outlet for non-compliance with the liquor act.

This police said said this operation demonstrates the commitment in addressing criminal activity, ensuring public safety and enforcing compliance with regulations in our communities.

Meanwhile, a 31-year-old man is expected to appear before the Christiana magistrates’ court on Monday, for allegedly killing his co-worker, aged 27.

According to North West police spokesperson lieutenant colonel Amanda Funani, the victim was visiting his two co-workers who are brothers at Geluksoord Township outside Christiana.

“They all went to a local tavern where a quarrel ensued between the two brothers. That after the elder brother took his younger brother’s cell phone and refused to give it back to him.

“The trio went back to the house where the brothers continued to fight. The aggressive elder brother allegedly stabbed the victim with a knife on the upper body when trying to separate them.

“Police were summoned to the scene where the victim was certified dead. The suspect was arrested and charged with murder,” she said.

The District Commissioner Dr of Ruth S Mompati, Brigadier Tshenolo Tlotleng thanked the police for their rapid response that led to the arrest.

Brig. Tlotleng urged members of the community to solve their differences amicably rather than resorting to violence.
