Landlord arrested for killing tenant

A landlord has been arrested after he allegedly shot and killed his tenant at a plot outside Hartbeespoort Dam near Brits on Sunday.

According to North West police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani, the 66-year-old tenant approached his landlord, aged 72, when he discovered that there was no electricity and water at his place.

“Following an argument that ensued between the two, the landlord went inside his house and came back with a firearm and allegedly shot the victim on his upper-body.

“The suspect fled from the scene while the victim was transported to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. 

“The suspect was arrested during an intelligence driven operation conducted around the Skeerport area.”

Lt Col Funani revealed that the police also recovered a firearm, which will be subjected to ballistic tests. 

The suspect is expected to appear in the Brits magistrates’ court on Wednesday for murder.  

Meanwhile, four suspects were arrested following an anonymous tip-off regarding a kidnapping in Brakpan on Wednesday.

Four males reportedly assaulted one male, and they had just forced the victim into a vehicle and drove off with him, Gauteng police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, revealed.

He further added that the police responded and searched for the suspects.

“They spotted the vehicle matching the description and attempted to stop it. Instead of stopping, the driver accelerated, and high speed chase ensued.

“The suspects were cornered and ordered to get out of the vehicle. The police noticed a male inside the vehicle who was bleeding, with injuries on the face.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the four suspects were responsible for assaulting and kidnapping the injured male

“All four suspects, who were found with replica firearm, were arrested and charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and kidnapping,” he stated.

The victim was taken to the nearest medical care centre for treatment.
