A male motorist was arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 Unit for fraud in Kensington, Johannesburg.
JMPD Spokesperson Xolani Fihla says on Friday whilst conducting crime prevention patrols in Kensington, officers spotted a White Toyota Avanza with a Gauteng Province registration and dark-tinted windows travelling along Cumberland Road.
“While driving behind the vehicle, the officers conducted an enquiry into the vehicle and it was discovered that the vehicle should be a white Toyota Run X, belonging to an individual from Yeoville.
“The officers stopped and searched the vehicle and occupants. It was then observed that the registration on the licence disc which was from Mpumalanga did not correspond with the registration that was affixed to the vehicle.
“The driver was questioned regarding the matter and he explained that he gets stopped a lot by the police when they notice the Mpumalanga number plate on the vehicle, so he decided to affix a Gauteng Province number plate to avoid being stopped all the time.

“The officers explained to the driver that what he had done was a serious offence and constituted fraud.
“The male was arrested and detained at Cleveland SAPS. The vehicle was seized and booked in at the SAPS Aeroton pound for further verification,” Fihla concluded.
