Twenty-eight-year-old Bellermine Chatunga Mugabe has pleaded guilty to violating the Immigration Act and pointing of a firearm in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
His co-accused, Tobias Tamirepi Matonhodze, aged 33, has admitted guilt on several charges, including attempted murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and defeating the ends of justice.
Additionally, he has been found to have contravened the Immigration Act.
The charges relate to an incident on 19 February at Mugabe’s residence in Hyde Park, north of Johannesburg, where an altercation occurred between the accused and a security guard.
During the incident, the guard was assaulted, shot in the back while trying to flee, and collapsed outside the gate. A nearby security guard found him and notified the police.
Sentencing for Mugabe and co-accused
Magaboke Mohlatlole, communications officer for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Gauteng Division, expressed approval of the duo’s conviction, noting that it resulted from their guilty pleas to the charges.

He also emphasized the NPA’s commitment to prosecuting violent crime to uphold the rule of law, protect communities, and ensure justice for victims.
The matter has been postponed to Friday, April 24, for sentencing proceedings.
