A 22-year-old male has been arrested for hijacking and possession of an unlicensed firearm on Wednesday in Finetown, south of Johannesburg.
According to Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson, Superintendent Xolani Fihla, patrol officers from the K9 Unit came across a hijacking in progress in Zakariyya Park, where the victim was shoved in the back of a courier bakkie by the suspects.
“The officers activated the blue lights and sirens and gave chase to the hijacked vehicle from Zakariyya Park to Finetown.

“The suspects jumped out of the moving vehicle and two of the three suspects managed to flee on foot. One male suspect was apprehended and when searched an unlicensed firearm was found in his possession.
“The arrested suspect was detained at Lenasia South SAPS,” he said.
Fihla added that the hijacked vehicle was seized and booked in at the SAPS Lenasia pound.
