A trio was arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property on Thursday night after a truck load of mixed groceries valued at approximately R2 million was recovered.
According to reports, members of Sasolburg Highway Patrol Relief D and Kroonstad Highway Patrol Relief C intercepted a suspicious truck during a joint operation, on the N1.
Free State police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani said members spotted a truck on the side of the road with the 31-year-old driver connecting trailers in the dark at about 22:30.
“Upon investigation, the driver could not produce an invoice for the load or the truck. The owner of the truck was contacted, and he confirmed that the load belonged to him, but his truck’s head was a VOLVO, not a MAN.
“The team then alerted Kroonstad Highway Patrol to be on the lookout for a Volvo truck head, and the truck head matching the description was spotted with two male occupants,” he explained.
Trio to appear in court
Sgt Rani stated that two suspects, aged 33 and 39, were arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property.
