Two suspected robbers were killed in a shootout with police in Sebokeng, south of Johannesburg, on Monday afternoon.
According to police reports, members of the Tactical Response Team (TRT) in Gauteng were patrolling along Houtkop Road when they identified a suspected hijacked vehicle with false registration numbers.Â
“They attempted to stop the vehicle using sirens, but it sped off and shots were fired at the police, leading to a high-speed chase and shootout.
“The suspects’ vehicle capsized, and one of the suspects attempted to flee but collapsed a few metres away from the vehicle. Both suspects were later declared dead by paramedics.
“Police seized a firearm from the suspects, as well as explosives found inside the vehicle, for further investigation,” the police said in a statement.

The vehicle was confirmed to have been stolen, linked to a Carletonville case reported in January 2026.
Meanwhile, the Gauteng Anti-Gang Unit arrested a 17-year-old in Westbury, Sophiatown, on Saturday for possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The suspect attempted to flee
A tip-off led to the arrest, and the suspect attempted to flee upon arrival at the location, but authorities quickly apprehended him.
An unlicensed firearm with a filed-off serial number and 14 rounds of live ammunition were discovered in his possession.
