A suspect has been arrested for murder after a woman was shot and killed whilst seating in a car outside a tavern in Bushbuckridge on Saturday morning.

A murder docket was open and a 23-year-old suspect was arrested and charged for murder.

According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the 22-year-old victim was taken to Mapulaneng hospital with a private vehicle where she succumbed to her injuries at around 3am.

“The victim and her friends parked their vehicle next to a tavern which was already closed when they were there to buy some potato chips.

“It is further alleged that the suspect who was half naked came from the tavern and instructed them to leave. Before they know it, the suspect reportedly fired several shots towards the direction of their vehicle.

‘They quickly left the scene then on their way, they realised that the victim was bleeding and quickly rushed her to hospital where she unfortunately succumbed to the injuries,” he said.

A murder docket was open and a 23-year-old suspect was arrested and charged for murder.

He is expected to appear before Bushbuckridge magistrate’s court on Monday.

Brig Mohlala stated that as the investigation continues, police cannot rule out possibilities of adding other charges against the suspect.

Meanwhile, a 51-year-old suspect is expected to appear at the Bushbuckridge magistrate’s court on Monday after he allegedly raped a woman in the early hours of Friday morning, in Violetbank, Bushbuckridge.

According to Brig. Mohlala, the 31-year-old victim was from a local tavern on her way back home.

“She alleged that she was walking on the R40 when the suspect came from behind and grabbed her, forcing her to the nearby bushes and reportedly raped her.

“When the victim was released by the suspect, she saw a Toyota Quantum and called for help.

“The occupants never wasted time, but immediately chased and apprehended the suspect who was taken to the police station,” added Mohlala.

The suspect was then arrested and charged for rape hence his court appearance.
