Police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said a ten seater taxi was travelling from Gauteng on the N12 when the tracking company cut the fuel supply leading the taxi to a halt.

He added; “The driver who is also the owner of the taxi got out of the taxi as he was trying to call the tracking company as he forgot to inform them that he was travelling to Mpumalanga.

“Four men appeared and pretended to offer some help and asked if everything was okay.

“Suddenly two of them pointed passengers with firearms then the other two got into the taxi and demanded the passengers’ cell phones, bags and money.”

Mohlala stated that after collecting the items, the suspects fled on foot into the bushes and the owner fired some shots towards their direction.

“Police were called to the scene and during investigation a body of a man was found with a gunshot wound at the back of his left ear and two cell phones next to the deceased,” he concluded.
