Mangosuthu University suspends academic programme in honour of Prince Buthelezi

THE Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) Senate has taken a resolution to suspend the academic programme from September 14-16. 

The decision was taken to allow staff and students to pay respect to Inkatha Freedom Party(IFP) and the MUT Founder, His Royal Highness, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi at memorial services held at Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal where his homestead is.

Hundreds of mothers gathered for the memorial service of the former leader.  

Buthelezi, 95, who was also the traditional prime minister to three successive Zulu kings, died last week Saturday after spending nearly a month in hospital.

The late Prince Buthelezi has been accorded a category one state funeral by President Cyril Ramaphosa, which will be held in Ulundi on Saturday. 

The suspension of academic program has also inadvertently affected the SRC elections that were due to take place on September 14. 

The [MUT] university executive management has therefore postponed the elections to a later date to be announced. It is said the Dean of Students will work with the relevant structures to identify a new date for the elections.

Some employees at Inkosi Langalibalele municipality which is led by the IFP were left stunned this week when their manager SB Mthembu instructed them through email to wear only black clothes and doek to work.  

It is alleged males must use black clothing while females must don black doek and clothing.  

The email, however, didn’t state what will happen to those who choose not to adhere to it.
