The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has recommended to President Cyril Ramaphosa the appointment of three judges to occupy the three vacant positions at the Supreme Court of Appeal.

Judges Gerald Bloem, Mmathebe Phatshoane, and Esther Steyn are earmarked to fill three vacant positions at the SCA.
This recommendation indicates a strategic move to enhance the judiciary’s capacity and effectiveness by filling essential judicial roles within South Africa’s legal framework.
Hopefuls for Supreme Courts
This is after deliberations following the interviews of the judges for the positions on Monday. The JSC is interviewing candidates nominated for positions in the various Superior Courts in Johannesburg this week.Â
More than 40 candidates are anticipated to undergo interviews for a variety of judicial roles across several high-profile courts in South Africa.
These include the Supreme Court of Appeal, Labour Court, Labour Appeal Court, Competition Appeal Court, Electoral Court, and Land Court. Additionally, candidates will be considered for positions in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and Northern Cape Divisions of the High Court.
