The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Joburg has urged for the prompt dismissal of council’s member of the mayoral committee (MMC), Nomoya Mnisi, due to serious allegations related to crime and corruption.

Mnisi and her bodyguard were arrested following allegations made by a 16-year-old boy who opened a criminal case against them.
The charges include kidnapping, pointing a firearm, and common assault.
Police confirmed the arrest of Mnisi, along with a second suspect aged 36 and 43.
They both appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, following the incident that led to their apprehension.
The party said it has written to the national director of public prosecutions, Adv Andy Mothibi, demanding a full investigation into the withdrawal of a criminal case involving MMC Mnisi and her bodyguard.
The shocking allegations, already in the public domain, include the kidnapping, pointing of a firearm, and assault of a minor boy who is alleged to be found with her minor daughter, the DA in Joburg said in a statement.
According to the party caucus leader Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku, the remarks reflect the party’s commitment to pursuing transparency and addressing issues that undermine public trust in local government.
Calls for mayor to axe Mnisi
“We want answers on how such a serious matter was withdrawn and whether proper legal and SAPS procedures were followed. At the same time, the DA has written to executive mayor Dada Morero demanding the immediate removal of Mnisi as MMC.
“Section 60 of the municipal systems act gives the mayor the authority to appoint and dismiss MMCs. Mayor Morero cannot continue protecting members of his executive while serious allegations such as corruption and crime hang over them,” she said.
Kayser-Echeozonjoku emphasised that Johannesburg’s residents deserve a government that respects the rule of law, not one clouded by allegations of criminality and political protection.
She added, “The DA will continue fighting to ensure accountability, transparency, and equal justice before the law.”
Meanwhile, the ANC in the region said it views allegations of violence, intimidation and any form of abuse involving vulnerable members of society in a very serious light.
“Matters involving the safety and wellbeing of children are of particular concern and must receive the urgent attention of law enforcement authorities.

“As a movement committed to the rule of law, accountability and ethical leadership, we believe the matter must be subjected to a full, fair and transparent investigation. We call on law enforcement agencies to act without fear or favour and allow due legal processes to unfold.
“At the same time, the ANC cautions against grandstanding by other political parties and emphasises the importance of respecting the rights of all parties involved while investigations are underway,” regional secretary Sasabona Manganye remarked.
