Multiple truck, car crash leaves 8 people injured

Eight people sustained various injuries during a multiple truck and car crash on the N3 Pietermaritzburg Bound near Cliffdale, west of Durban on Saturday morning.

Advanced Life Support(ALS) Paramedics said members responded to a horrific incident just after 7:00 am after a truck lost control and ploughed into vehicles traveling towards Pietermaritzburg.

It is reported that paramedics arrived on the scene to find chaos as the entire N3 was closed due to the crash.

“Immediately a triage station was set up and it was found that two trucks and four light motor vehicles had been involved.

“A total of eight patients had sustained various injuries ranging from moderate to critical and multiple.

“Ambulances worked to stabilize them on scene before transporting them to various Durban and Pietermaritzburg hospitals for further care,” ALS Paramedics stated.

Road closed following crash

The N3 Pietermaritzburg Bound was closed whilst emergency workers worked to clear the scene. RTI and SAPS were is attendance and will be investigating further.

Motorists are advised to avoid this area at all costs for some time to allow the scene to be cleared.

Meanwhile, two people sustained moderate injuries after both their vehicles overturned after colliding on the N2 North Bound before M7 Edwin Swales off ramp on Friday morning.

According to ALS Paramedics the two overturned vehicles were found in the centre medium of the national highway.

“Both drivers had sustained injuries and were stabilized on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to nearby Hospitals.

“At this stage the events leading up to the crash is unknown however SAPS were in attendance and will be investigating further,” the statement read.
