Mob justice results to two dead, 1 injured following stab incident

A mob justice has resulted in the death of a man after he killed one person leaving another injured following a stab incident in Hazelmere, KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday morning.

It is reported that two of the men were walking along a pathway when an altercation ensued, said Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA).

One of the males produced an Okapi knife and stabbed his friend in the buttock before he fled. He proceeded to another friend’s house a short distance away and stabbed him twice.

The community apprehended the suspect and beat him to death with sticks and boulders.

According to RUSA, it was alleged that all three individuals were friends and were allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

The unit confirmed that their members were called out to the scene at approximately 08:25.

“On arrival, officers discovered the lifeless bodies of two males lying next to each other in a yard. One was covered with a white blanket and the other was exposed.

“One individual sustained stab wounds to his Sternum and left Humerus. The second male suffered extensive blunt force trauma to his head and body.

Treated for Stab wounds

“While attending to the scene, officers were informed that a third male was located at a tuck shop approximately 200 meters away and paramedics treated him for a stab wound to his left buttock,” RUSA said.

The injured male was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Details leading up to the stabbings were not established. However, residents complained that the suspect had a history of stabbing people in the area.

Meanwhile, a 26-year-old man was shot multiple times during a home invasion in Mhlasini, KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.

RUSA said the victim and his girlfriend were asleep when two armed males forced their way into his rented room.

“They robbed the couple of cash and cell phones before they shot the male victim three times in his left leg. The robbers then fled in an unknown direction.

“Our members were called out to the scene at approximately 02:08 where a 9mm bullet and spent cartridges were recovered.

“While the female victim was not harmed, the injured male was transported privately to hospital,” the unit remarked.
