A total of 20 suspects who were found to be in the country illegally were arrested on Thursday by law enforcement authorities during the roadblock on the N3 highway in Heidelberg.

Additionally, one suspect was taken into custody specifically for the possession of drugs, highlighting the dual focus of the operation on immigration enforcement and drug-related offenses.
Major General Mbuso Khumalo, the Acting Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, participated in a multidisciplinary roadblock.
This operation was under the leadership of Major General Adelaide Mukwevho, the Sedibeng District Commissioner, highlighting collaboration among law enforcement agencies in the region.
Roadblocks across Highway
The roadblock was a collaborative effort that included multiple stakeholders: Home Affairs, Gauteng Traffic Police, Emfuleni Traffic Police, Lesedi Traffic Police, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, private security, and the Community Policing Forum (CPF).
This diverse participation suggests a comprehensive approach to managing traffic and community safety.
Traffic police officials enforced traffic regulations by issuing fines totaling R4,600 for a range of traffic violations. This action underscores the commitment to maintaining road safety and compliance with traffic laws.
Meanwhile, four suspects are expected to appear before the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court following their arrest for possession of suspected stolen copper cable and suspected stolen property on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani said members, in collaboration with the Fezile Dabi Trio Task Team, responded to an urgent tip-off received around 16:00 about potential stolen copper cables.
“The information led members to a residence in Chris Hani, where two male suspects, aged 18 and 28, were found inside a shack in possession of suspected stolen copper cables with an estimated value of R13 500.
“Members conducted an operation at the Cargo Informal Settlement, resulting in the apprehension of two male suspects, both aged 32.
“These individuals were found with items believed to be stolen, and they were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for why they were in possession of such property,” she explained.
