This centre, located in De Deur, offers care and accommodation specifically for adult men who are living with mental health conditions.

The donation reflects the municipality’s commitment to supporting local initiatives aimed at improving the well-being of vulnerable populations.

The charity golf day, held on Friday, 16 October, successfully raised over R60,000 through various sponsorships, including four-ball and hole sponsorships.

Notably, Nedbank not only sponsored the event but also committed an additional R10,000 to support the centre.

The funds raised will be directed toward refurbishing the centre and covering zoning applications, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Lynca Meats and Harvest Fresh, recognized as two of the municipality’s primary social partners, contributed food packages to the centre through the initiative known as the Spread the Love Programme.

According to Midvaal mayor Peter Teixeira, this initiative coincides with Movember, an international campaign focused on raising awareness about men’s health, encompassing issues such as mental health and suicide prevention.

The selection of beneficiaries for this event highlights the importance of addressing these health concerns.

Teixeira emphasized that the municipality’s initiative showcases its commitment to taking responsibility beyond merely providing basic services.

Golf Day’s collective efforts

He highlighted the necessity of tackling social challenges through substantial collaboration with businesses, organizations, and community partners, reinforcing the idea that effective solutions depend on collective efforts and partnerships.

The mayor also expressed his appreciation to the sponsors for their contributions towards the initiative and their continued support of the municipality’s efforts to address social challenges.

In a statement, he said, “As the Midvaal local municipality, we are grateful for our partners who continue to support our initiatives whenever we call on them. We recognise that government cannot address social challenges alone.
