Petrol tanker caught in the crossfire

A petrol tanker was caught in the crossfire following a shootout on the N12 east Snake road off ramp, Benoni on Monday.

Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department media liaison officer Lerato Monyane said at about 11:30 the EMPD CLU officers were driving along the N12 direction East.

“The officers saw a Green Nissan Almera with four male occupants and one male at the back seat, sitting between the two with his head facing down.

“The officers follow up the car as it off ramped at Snake road. The officers turned on their blue lights and stopped the vehicle.

“The officers came to a stop and as they were about to approach the vehicle the occupants started shooting the officer and the petrol tanker was caught in the crossfire.

“The tanker then started leaking as the Almera drove off. All the necessary stakeholders were summoned.”

Monyane urged motorist to use other alternative roads.

No casualties were reported.
