Police have arrested a male suspected to be part of a syndicate that allegedly hijack and steal vehicles from South Africa and transport them to Eswatini.
Following a tip-off received, a team comprising of Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department and RTMC busted the 37-year-old eSwatini national who was charged with possession of hijacked motor vehicles.
According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo the information led the team to a house in Kibler Park, south of Johannesburg.
“Inside the yard, there were four vehicles, a Toyota Fortuner that was reportedly hijacked in Jeppe, an Isuzu bakkie that was reportedly hijacked in Heidelberg, BMW that was tampered with and a Land Rover Discovery,” he said.
Lt Masondo added that inside the house, police found different eSwatini registration plates, various eSwatini car registration documents, homemade vin numbers, stencil that is used to print vin numbers, and other implements.

He further confirmed that more arrests are imminent as the investigation is continuing.
Meanwhile, Twenty-nine suspects found themselves behind bars in Boksburg Policing Precinct on Wednesday for illegal mining, possession of drugs and illegal immigration.
This as Operations Vala Umgodi remain steadfast in curbing illegal mining in the Ekurhuleni District.
Tools used for illegal mining activities were also seized.
