Police have arrested a fraudster following a tip-off in Savanna City, Midvaal.

This comes after the suspect allegedly defrauded First National Bank (FNB) of an amount of R2.9 million.
According to the report, members of the West Rand District Crime Intelligence (CI), conducted an operation in collaboration with the Sedibeng Tracking Team and Gauteng Traffic Police’s Special Law Enforcement Unit (SLEU).
“The team proceeded to the identified address, where they located a suspect matching the description provided. Upon verifying the individual’s identity, it was confirmed that the suspect was the person wanted in connection with a fraud case involving FNB,” the statement read.
The suspect was immediately arrested.
Meanwhile, a 16-year-old was apprehended after being found in possession of a firearm reportedly stolen with the serial number of the firearm still intact, aiding in its identification.
The operations conducted in the early hours of Christmas Day, by the Gauteng Traffic Police and Gauteng Traffic Wardens stationed in Eldorado Park also led to the recovery of multiple firearms and the arrest of suspects.
“Two additional suspects were arrested for the possession of an unlicensed CZ P09 firearm and a shotgun. The suspects failed to produce valid documentation for the firearms.
“One of the suspects, who was the driver of the vehicle, was also charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

“The arrests followed reports from the community about a VW Caddy driving around and recklessly discharging a firearm in public. Acting on the tip-off, officers patrolled the area and spotted the vehicle, which matched the description provided.
“The suspects were stopped along Main Road, and a thorough search led to the recovery of the firearms and the arrests,” police said.
