Gauteng social development MEC Mbali Hlophe has urged learners to work hard as she embarked on the back to school campaign during her visit in Sedibeng on Wednesday.

The visit got off to a start at Qedilizwe Secondary School in Evaton North, then Beverly Hills Secondary School and before ending off at Mathabiso Day Care Centre.
Hlophe said they’re assessing the preparedness of schools and Early Childhood Development Centres and sharing inspiration with learners as they embark on the new academic year.
The MEC also used the opportunity to ensure that appropriate resources and learning materials are in place at the schools so that effective learning can take place.
Among those in attendance included Emfuleni mayor Sipho Radebe and Sedibeng municipality chief whip Mamohale Moloi.
Addressing learners, the MEC implored them to be a generation of job creators and not job seekers.
“For us to develop the nation, we need people who are educated, who can be able to work or be entrepreneurs so that they can take the country to the next level in an effort to curb the high unemployment rate as well as bridge the gap on the huge disparities between the rich and the poor.

“Our programme today includes distributing school uniforms and dignity packs, establishing food gardens in schools, and enhancing cleanliness with Green Army members. We are working together for a brighter Gauteng Province,” she said.

Hlophe stated that at the heart of their back-to-school campaign is the commitment to support and motivate young minds.
She added; “We believe education is the foundation for success. We brought school uniforms and dignity packs, heard inspiring stories, and emphasised the importance of commitment to learning. Learners are aiming high for 2024.”
