Sony Music Africa has signed Windhoek-born singer-songwriter Ms Gideon, 20, via ERA Music Group, making her the first Namibian artist on the global Sony roster.

Her signing signals a breakthrough moment — not only for her career, but for Namibia’s growing presence on the international music stage.
Born Panduleni Gideon, she has steadily been gaining traction online, with her single “Pretty Vibes” and debut EP “5 Star” introducing her warm, soulful sound to a wider audience.
Her rise reached new heights in 2024 when she performed at the legendary Apollo Theatre in New York, a defining moment that showcased her expanding global footprint.
Speaking on her signing, she said, “My dream has always been to represent Namibia with pride and show the world what young African voices can do. Joining Sony Music Africa is a huge moment — not just for me, but for every young girl back home who dreams boldly.”
“I’m ready to make music that uplifts my people and moves the continent forward.”
Rooted in soul, Afrobeats, and rich African influences, she is celebrated for her emotive songwriting, smooth vocal tone, and empowering messages — particularly aimed at young African girls.
Her music reflects both vulnerability and confidence, positioning her as one of Southern Africa’s most promising new voices.
“I started with no team, no funding — just with what I had. You record at night, promote during the day, and do it again the next week,” she said.
Like many artists from emerging markets, she relied heavily on TikTok, YouTube, and WhatsApp to distribute her music and grow an audience at a time when traditional industry access was limited.
These platforms became her gateway to visibility, allowing her talent to travel far beyond her immediate circles.
Choir gave Ms Gideon voice online
Ms Gideon discovered her voice through school choirs before sharing covers online, where her natural ability quickly drew attention.
Her breakthrough came in 2024 after winning the Next Narrative Africa talent competition, a victory that led to her landmark Apollo Theatre performance alongside acclaimed African artists Adekunle Gold and Patoranking.
Her momentum accelerated further with the release of her breakout single “Home”, which made Namibian music history by becoming the fastest song from the country to reach one million views on YouTube.
