Pastor Ray died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family and loved ones at 18h46 last night, the family confirmed.

The 75-year-old prominent and outstanding ecumenical leader, had stepped back from active church duties but remained fully committed to serving the body of Christ.

He served as the President of the International Federation of Christian Churches (IFCC), co-chair of the National Interfaith Council of South Africa (NICSA), author and former champion bodybuilder.

In a statement issued on Tuesday night, Pastor Joshua McCauley, said Pastor Ray’s enduring legacy as a servant leader will continue to impact communities far beyond his lifetime.

President Cyril Ramaphosa said: “Pastor Ray’s passing leaves our deeply spiritual nation bereft of a remarkable leader whose impressive legacy lives on in the faith of hundreds of thousands of believers within and beyond the Rhema community.

“You have shared in the triumphs of our nation, you have shared in our disappointments, you have offered counsel and prayer.”

Conveying his sincere condolences, South African National Christian Forum (SANCF) President, Bishop Marothi Mashashane, said McCauley’s contributions and expertise in the field of Christian have been widely acknowledged.

“As we mourn his passing away, the SANCF recognises and remembers his invaluable contributions to the body of Christ. He will be remembered as one of the great Christian leaders in the country.

“Indeed,his enduring legacy as a servant leader will continue to impact communities far beyond his lifetime in many ways. May his soul rest in peace and memory be eternal,” he remarked.

The family stated that further details will be communicated in due course.
