AmaZulu rope in Zwane, Vilakazi as co-coaches

Betway Premiership outfit AmaZulu FC have appointed their DStv Diski Challenge head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi and former Kaizer Chiefs mentor Arthur Zwane as co-coaches.

The KwaZulu-Natal based side announced that the duo is expected to assume their roles and hit the ground running with immediate effect.

The pair replace Spaniard Pablo Franco Martin and his assistant Aitor Van Den Brule, who left Usuthu last week after a poor start to the season.

Zwane has been working in the junior structures at Amakhosi, where he also served before his head coaching stint and being Kaizer Chiefs’ assistant coach from 2021.

Vilakazi parted ways with Richards Bay in August, despite signing a new contract with the team.

He assisted the club retain their top-flight status after winning the Premier Soccer League Promotional playoffs early in June, and was rewarded with a contract renewal that would have kept him at the club for another season.

In a statement issued by the team on Tuesday, the club said; “Usuthi has officially named Arthur “10111” Zwane and Vusimuzi “Kanu” Vilakazi as joint first team head coaches in a move which will see the SA born coaching duo assume their roles with immediate effect.

“AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu confirmed the appointments, expressing confidence in the pair’s ability to lead the team through the challenges of the Betway premiership.

“Their combined experience as both coaches and former professional players will be crucial in developing our younger talents and guiding our seasoned players in the task ahead,” said Zungu.

AmaZulu who were pitted against StelleNbosch FC in the Carling Black Label Knockout draw earlier on Tuesday afternoon, will face Orlando Pirates away in a league encounter on Friday, October 25.
