Midvaal Local Municipality has officially launched the Savanna City Substation, a project designed to enhance the electricity capacity and distribution within the area.

The substation was completed as scheduled and adhered to its financial plan, with a total expenditure of R49 million.
The project, as stated by Mayor Peter Teixeira, is a key component of the municipality’s continuous investment in infrastructure.
Its primary goal is to provide communities with access to reliable and sustainable electricity services, highlighting the local government’s commitment to enhancing essential utilities for its residents.
“The construction of the substation included the development of key electrical infrastructure in accordance with Eskom standards and specifications. This included the construction of the substation terrace and earthmat, plinths and foundations.
“The project also included the construction of an 88 kV control room, equipped with the required ventilation and warning signage, as well as 11 kV switching rooms, a control room and a load control room.
“An oil holding dam was also constructed for the 88/11 kV transformers, while yardstone was spread across the substation yard in accordance with the required specifications,” he remarked.Â
Substation, an important addition
Teixeira emphasised the positive impact of the project on the local economy, noting that it generated a minimum of 25 jobs throughout the construction phase.
Additionally, the project engaged 10 Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) as subcontractors, allowing them to participate in the initiative.
