Two suspects were arrested in connection with the case of missing Sibongile Portia Ngwana.
Ngwana who was reported missing by her family at Mangaung Police Station on Tuesday.
According to Free State police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, the two African males aged 27 and 33 arrested on Thursday were confirmed to be foreign nationals.
He added that investigation led to the discovery of remains on an open veld near M10 Road.
“A multidisciplinary team led by forensic experts gathered under the tree near the stream to collect the remains suspected to be those of missing Sibongile.
“The remains were confirmed by an expert who also visited the scene to be the remains of a human being; nevertheless forensic tests still to be done to ascertain the identity if its indeed the remains of the reported missing Sibongile,” Makhele stated.
He further revealed that investigation continues and more arrests are expected.
Meanwhile, provincial commissioner, Lt Gen Baile Motswenyane said they are pleased with the progress made by the multidisciplinary team charged with these investigations.

He appealed to communities and next of kin to be patient and allow formal tests to be conducted before they presume the identity of these human remains.
The two suspects are currently detained and will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate Court soon.
In other news, the police recovered copper cable worth R15 000 at a local scrapyard in Jeppe and arrested one suspect.
This comes after a tip-off was received about a scrapyard selling stolen copper cables at Bertrams in Jeppe, Johannesburg.
“The owner of the scrapyard was found and permission was granted to search the premises where the members recovered rolls of copper cable. Preliminary investigation established that the copper cable belong to PRASA and Johannesburg City Power,” said Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi.
The 49-year-old owner of the scrapyard was arrested and is expected to appear before Jeppe Magistrates’ Court soon.
