A 15-year-old learner was arrested on Wednesday, in Klipgat after he was found in possession of a firearm and six rounds of ammunition.

According to North West police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani, members were dispatched to the school following the call from the principal.

“On arrival, the principal showed the police a firearm, ammunition as well as the learner who was allegedly found in possession of the items.

“The learner who allegedly told the police that the firearm belongs to his brother, who has gone missing since Wednesday, was arrested.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the firearm was reported stolen at Mabopane, Gauteng Province, on 11 July 2024,” she revealed.

Lt Col. Funani said the minor was assessed by social workers on Thursday, and was placed under the care of his parents whilst the search continues for the learner’s brother.

The minor is expected to appear before the Ga-Rankuwa Children’s Court on Wednesday.

Bojanala District Commissioner, Major General Modisagaarekwe Mosimanegape, urged parents and firearm owners not to leave their firearms unattended as that poses danger to the community.

Meanwhile, a 44-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the ongoing ATM bombing investigations.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza confirmed the arrest of the suspect comes after a joint operation in Katlehong North on Friday.

“The team searched a house in Katlehong North after receiving a tip-off, finding detonators and an undisclosed amount of ink-stained banknotes.

“The suspect is currently facing charges related to the ATM bombings. The arrested suspect will appear in court soon,” she stated.

Col. Kweza added that possibility of further arrest cannot be ruled out at this stage.
