A baby girl was recovered in a maize meal bag which was dumped on the railway line at Belfast on Thursday.

According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, security personnel were patrolling along the railway line in Dalmanuta, Belfast when they heard a baby crying.
‘The security personnel’s attention was drawn to the infant’s cries. On closer inspection, the baby girl was found inside the maize meal bag.
“Our members and paramedics were summoned to the scene where the child was stabilised and referred to the medical facility for further attention.
Police have called on anyone who might assist in locating the baby girl’s mother to come forth.
Mpumalanga provincial police commissioner, lieutenant general Semakaleng Manamela condemned the act of child neglect especially when the country is about to honour the 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Children.
Sixteen days of activism against women and children is a worldwide campaign opposing violence and aims to raise awareness of the negative impact that violence and abuse have on women and children and to rid society of abuse permanently.

Meanwhile, police in Mogwase in North West have launched a manhunt following the escape of ten awaiting trial detainees on Wednesday morning.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said the detainees aged between 18 and 56 escaped through the roof after cutting the mesh wire.

“Johannes Mogari Nowata, Katlego Nkitle, Omphemetse Moeng, Joseph Molefe, Tebogo Michael Langeni, Obvious Mlambo, Lebogang Mokotleng, Adonis Mpofu, Eric Mkhonazi and Tshiamo Mogale were at the time of the incident, facing charges ranging from house robbery, possession of suspected stolen goods, robbery aggravating, murder, attempted rape to burglary,” he stated.
Internal investigations regarding the incident have also been instituted.
