MEC Maile handed more than 150 houses in the Elijah Barayi Mega Housing Project at Carletonville and over more than 440 title deeds in the Rand West Municipality on Friday.

According to the department this was a guarantee to land ownership to qualifying and deserving beneficiaries of Westonaria Borwa.

The MEC was accompanied by the Mayor of Rand West Municipality Councillor William Matsheke and MMC Amelia Zama.

RISE Mzansi Gauteng Premier Candidate Vuyiswa Ramokgopa said this is nothing more than electioneering.

“The housing project being in progress for over five years, and the allocation of these homes appears to have been deliberately delayed to benefit the ANC politically in the upcoming elections, where they are set to lose the province, she remarked.

Ramokgopa stated that residents within the West Rand Municipality have languished on housing waiting lists for up to twenty-eight years, feeling continuously overlooked while they wait for homes they’ve been promised for nearly the entirety of the democratic era.

She emphasised that it is disheartening to witness their ongoing struggle for housing amidst political manoeuvring.

“The people of Gauteng are not blind to the political games of the ANC, and we urge them to reject such theatrics and attention-seeking antics.

“RISE Mzansi pledges to prioritise and expedite construction projects aimed at providing housing for the impoverished.

“Our commitment is to ensure that dignity is restored to our people and that every deserving individual receives a home in a timely manner,” Ramokgopa concluded.
