Moja Love’s television presenter Xolani Khumalo appeared before the Palm Ridge magistrate’s court in Ekurhuleni on Tuesday.
Xolani Khumalo of Sizokuthola handed himself over at Katlehong North Police Station on Tuesday, 19 September.

The National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane confirmed that the Sizok’thola presenter is facing a charge of murder.

“The case relates to the death of a suspected drug dealer that died in Katlehong in July 2023, during the filming of one of the episodes of the anti-drug show,” she explained.

Khumalo handed himself over to the police following a police investigation in the murder of Robert “Kicks” Varrie, 49, an alleged drug dealer who “died of strangulation”.

Varrie was allegedly assaulted after he did not confess to being a drug dealer. He was then taken to Thelle Mogoerane Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

The deceased partner, who witnessed the incident, reportedly told Daily Sun that on that fateful day, Xolani and his crew with armed men and Amapanyaza patrollers came to their place and wanted drugs.

She said Robert only had a few drugs in his possession and gave them to the crew, but they demanded more.

She alleged that her boyfriend was assaulted even after he told them he only had a few drugs and was later taken to hospital by the crew.

In a statement issued, Xolani Khumalo Foundation said they rely on law enforcement to act with equity and fairness.

“Xolani and the Xolani Khumalo Foundation respects the laws of the Republic and rejects all forms of vigilantism. Xolani, having completely operated under the law, will willingly submit to the law.

“The Foundation having full confidence in Xolani’s innocence will allow the law to take its course.
